Sanders, Omar states war criminals like Netanyahu shouldn’t be welcomed

(MENAFN)
US Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Ilhan Omar sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, which comes as Israel continues its intense military campaign in the Gaza Strip. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 57,500 Palestinians.

In a video posted Tuesday on social media platform X, Sanders reminded viewers that Netanyahu faces indictment by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes tied to the systematic killing and starvation of civilians in Gaza. “These war crimes continue to this day,” Sanders stated.

He highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis, pointing out that 17,000 children have died and that Israel’s blockade has cut off aid, including baby formula to hospitals. This leaves starving mothers unable to breastfeed and forced to watch their infants slowly perish. Sanders condemned the warm reception Netanyahu is receiving, labeling him “a war criminal who will be remembered as one of the monsters of modern history.”

Representative Ilhan Omar also voiced her opposition on X, emphasizing that this is Netanyahu’s third trip to Washington this year and asserting, “War criminals should not be welcomed by any president or Congress. He should be held accountable for his crimes, not platformed. Beyond shameful.”
