Second Group of Palestinians Crosses into Gaza via Rafah
The returnees had previously been receiving medical treatment in hospitals across Egypt and reached the crossing earlier in the day to finalize the necessary administrative steps before entering Gaza.
The arrivals follow the partial reopening of the Rafah terminal on Monday. Around 50 Palestinians are expected to return to Gaza, while approximately 150 patients and their companions are scheduled to leave the enclave for medical care in Egypt.
Gaza health authorities estimate that nearly 22,000 patients are awaiting the full reopening of the crossing, which serves as a crucial humanitarian route. Israel captured the Rafah crossing in May 2024, nearly nine months into its ongoing war on Gaza that has resulted in over 71,000 deaths and more than 171,000 injuries since October 2023.
The terminal was originally scheduled to reopen in October under the first phase of a ceasefire agreement, but Israel delayed it until the release of its last captive in Gaza, which occurred last week.
Despite the ceasefire, attacks have continued, with more than 500 people killed and over 1,300 injured since October 10, according to Gaza’s media office.
