US Delists UN Palestinian Rights Rapporteur Francesca Albanese
The decision follows a court ruling issued last week in which a federal judge suspended the sanctions imposed by the Trump administration against Albanese, saying the measures infringed upon her constitutional right to free expression.
US District Judge Richard Leon approved a preliminary injunction blocking the sanctions, concluding that the administration attempted to restrict her speech because of the “idea or message expressed.”
Albanese, an Italian national residing in Tunisia, had previously faced sanctions after urging the International Criminal Court in The Hague to move forward with war crimes cases against Israeli officials over military actions carried out in Gaza.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had accused Albanese of leading a “campaign of political and economic warfare” targeting both the United States and Israel following the release of a report in which she named several corporations allegedly linked to supporting Israeli occupation activities in Palestinian territories, including Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Palantir.
