Palestinian Group Calls for Accountability Over Alleged Abuse of Prisoners
According to reports, the Palestinian Prisoner Society issued a statement on Sunday demanding that Israeli officials be prosecuted in international courts for what it described as widespread abuses against prisoners.
The group said that “Israeli crimes against Palestinians, including violations against thousands of prisoners, necessitate holding Israeli officials accountable and prosecuting them before competent international courts.”
The statement follows a report attributed to the office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, which said it had verified 31 cases of sexual violence involving Israeli forces and Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank over the past year.
According to reports, the document indicated that 13 of the verified cases occurred in 2025, while 18 took place in the two preceding years. The alleged violations included rape, gang rape, forced nudity, and threats of sexual assault.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society welcomed the findings, saying they represent growing international acknowledgment of the scale of abuses it attributes to Israeli authorities.
It further argued that such acts “are no longer documented as individual or exceptional violations, but rather as policies and tools of repression and collective punishment systematically practiced by the occupation institutions.”
The allegations come amid heightened scrutiny of conditions facing Palestinian detainees and ongoing calls from human rights organizations for independent investigations and accountability mechanisms.
